A Holiday to remember in the Upper Eden Valley

About Us

The Byre is one of two holiday cottages on Leases Farm.  It is a well established family run business which has been welcoming guests since 1995.  The Byre offers ground floor accommodation, with private entrance and an enclosed garden.

Accommodation: Entrance porch, leading into an open plan kitchen and living area, bedroom with king size bed, and a separate shower room. (Bed linen & towels provided)

Facilities:  Kitchen features a standard cooker with electric hob and oven, fridge with small freezer compartment.  Shared washing machine and tumble dryer available in an out-building.

Heating:  The Byre benefits from central heating throughout, and a wood burning stove in the living area.  We provide kindling and logs for you to use during your stay.

Parking: There is a dedicated parking space for one vehicle.

Pets:  We welcome up to two dogs.  The garden is enclosed, and there is a variety of lovely short and long walks from the doorstep.  We can usually offer an empty field for you to use to exercise your dog(s).

Our other holiday cottage is Nuthatch which was completed in 2022 and similarly caters for up to two people, with or without dogs.  Please see the link below:

We have livestock on our small farm, but nothing beats our wild visitors which are a joy to sit back and watch, or spot whilst on a walk.

Red squirrels frequently visit and we also see an abundance of bird species on our feeders, including various Tits, Finches, Nuthatches and Woodpeckers amongst several others, varying with the seasons.

Scandal Beck runs through the farm and is a tributary of the River Eden.  Scandal Beck and its banks are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC) which include wildlife of interest.  It provides a habitat for various species such as White Clawed Crayfish, Bullhead Fish, Lampreys and Eels; as well as Brown Trout and Salmon which spawn here in the autumn.  We also have Kingfishers and Otters, although these are less often seen.

Take in the beautiful sunsets and as night falls, in the right conditions, the night sky can be spectacular with constellations, planets and the Milky Way clear to see.
